The name of all the companies that are developing or testing driverless cars consists of Audi, BMW, Ford, Google, General Motors, Volkswagen and Volvo. Google's deiverless car test carried a fleet of self-driving cars and six Toyota Prii and an Audi TT is navigating over 140,000 miles of California streets and highways. And only single accident could occurred during one of the infrequent occasions when a human being was driving. After that another test had been taken of over 1000 miles was completed successfully with no human was driving the car.
The common examples for this is Google Car. Let us take a brief working of Google driverless cars:
- Here the “human driver” can only sets the destination and as a result of this the car’s software integrates a route and starts the car on its road to way.
- The rotating, roof-mounted LIDAR which stands for Light Detection and Ranging is a technology which is very much similar to RADAR. This technology can have a sensor which monitors a 60-meter range around the car and creates a dynamic 3D map in the car’s current direction.
- A sensor is plugging on the left rear wheel which continuously monitors sideways movement and also detect the car’s position relative to the 3-D map.
- The RADAR systems is plugged in the front and rear bumpers which calculate distances from obstacles.
- The AI which stands for Artificial Intelligence continuously simulates human perceptual and human decision-making processes and it controls an actions in driver-control systems such as steering and brakes.
- The driverless car can have a software which consults Google Maps for advance notice of things like landmarks, traffic signs and other lights.
- With the help of all these systems based on driverless cars say they would decrease accidents which is caused by driver error and this is currently cause of almost all the traffic accidents and here the greater precision of an automatic system would an improve the traffic flow and also increase highway capacity and decrease or you can say that eliminate traffic jams. Conclusion, this driverless technology or systems would allow commuters to do other things while traveling, such as working, reading or sleeping and much more.
